After struggling through the first two games of the Western Conference, Steph Curry returned to his MVP status with a dominant performance in last night’s win against the Houston Rockets. The Golden State Warrior point guard dropped 35 points, including 18 in the third quarter. But while nearly everyone was blown away by his incredible game, Curry admitted that his mom Sonya was less than impressed by one aspect of his on-court performance:
Sonya was referencing Curry’s behavior in the third quarter when her son managed to nail a contested floater. Afterward, Curry turned to the crowd and yelled: “This is my fucking house!” While Curry’s f-bomb successfully riled up the crowd, he said that his mom let him know after the game that she was not a fan of his unnecessary use of profanity.
“She already sent me two home videos, showing me the clip and playing it back,” Curry told ESPN. “She was telling me how I need to wash my mouth out, saying to wash it out with soap. It’s a message I’ve heard before.”
To Curry’s credit, he admitted that his mom was right to call him out, as the father of two said he wants to set a better example for his kids and his young fans.
“She’s right,” Curry told ESPN. “I gotta do better. I can’t talk like that.”
Curry is widely considered one of the best players in the NBA but had faced some criticism after he failed to deliver his usual high caliber of play in the opening games of the series. So when he finally delivered this massive performance, he naturally wanted to express what he was feeling. But next time, he may want to watch his words a bit more carefully or he may be getting another angry text from his mom.
