Fans of Sansa may have been disappointed that Sophie Turner’s character didn’t end up snagging the Iron Throne in last weekend’s Game of Thrones finale—but Turner herself is totally fine with it. She recently revealed how she felt about the ending, even addressing the negative reactions it has received.
“I wasn’t bummed at all because ever since the end of season one, Sansa has not been about the capital or being queen,” Turner told Entertainment Weekly. She added that her character, who ended up being crowned Queen of the North, “doesn’t believe she could rule and doesn’t want to. She knows her place is in the North and she can rule the people of the North and rule Winterfell.”
Turner went on to explain that Sansa would “probably be capable [of being Queen of the Seven Kingdoms] with the help of her family and advisors like Tyrion,” but that “she has no desire to be ruler of all of the Seven Kingdoms.”
But while Turner may not be upset about the fate of her character, she is upset about how fans are attacking the final episode. “[The ending] shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way,” she told the New York Times the day after the finale aired.
The 23-year-old actress also reprimanded those who are hating on how the show ended, saying, “All of these petitions and things like that I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”
