Today, Sesame Workshop just announced the launch of a primetime Sesame Street special featuring celebrity guests Anne Hathaway, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Tracee Ellis Ross. The special will air on HBO, HBO Latino, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, truTV and the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel. The special, Sesame Street: Elmo’s Playdate will air next week, Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
The special will tackle what many kids and adults are going through across the world right now: how to find new ways to play, learn and work together while we socially distance and shelter in place. Featuring Grover, Elmo, the Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby, these puppet friends will figure out how to safely play and celebrate those who are working hard on the front lines to help those who have been affected by COVID-19. The whole special will be in the form of a video conference — no surprise there, as it’s the main way people are communicating with coworkers, teachers and friends right now — and the fun friends of Sesame Street will sing songs, play games and dance from the comfort of their own homes.
For parents who want to entertain their kids after dinner or after work, the 30-minute special is sure to entertain and also help kids realize why they have to stay home and can’t see their friends in the first place.
