Miley Cyrus and the New Captain America Rock ‘Black Mirror’ Season 5

The dystopian series returns with a trio of new misadventures, Miley Cyrus and...the new Captain America.

Netflix

Were you let down by Black Mirror: Bandersnatch? Don’t worry, Netflix has announced that Season 5 of Black Mirror is coming in just a few weeks on June 6. Like with the first season of the show, there will only be three new episodes this time, but they feature a stacked cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, and Topher Grace and will once again examine the complex relationship between humans and technology. Or, just be really, really freaking weird.

Mackie, the Newly Crowned Captain America, stars alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in “Striking Vipers” which focuses on a couple that struggles to keep the spark alive. Naturally, the husband (played by Mackie) appears to be using technology to secretly explore his own desires. We’re not psychics but we’re guessing it does not go well.

In a bit of art imitating life, “Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too” features Cyrus playing a fictional pop star who is the inspiration for a toy robot meant to connect with her adoring fans. But it seems the robot may end up taking on a life of its own.

And finally, “Smithereens” focuses on a cab driver who ends up taking his passenger hostage. Topher Grace also shows up with a manbun, though his role in the episode is not yet clear.

Since its debut back in 2011, Black Mirror has become one of the most beloved series in recent memory, as the show has shocked fans with its ability to come up with increasingly grim perspectives on our ever-growing reliance on technology. Last year, the show flexed a bit of its innovative skill with ‘Bandersnatch’, a choose-your-own-adventure episode that featured a variety of possible outcomes for viewers.

Black Mirror Season 5 will be available on Netflix starting Wednesday, June 6.
