Marriage is hard work, which is something that Ryan Reynolds is all too familiar with. At last night’s premiere of Pokemon Detective Pikachu, the Deadpool star revealed that the secret to his successful relationship with wife Blake Lively is making time for each other no matter what.
“Blake and I don’t do movies at the same time,” Reynolds told PEOPLE. “If she is doing a movie in Thailand and I am doing a movie in Vancouver we would just never see each other. We operate as a unit, and that works really well for us.”
The dad of two went on to explain that being together as much as possible has kept the family close. “The kids stay with us, and the family stays together, and that is where home is,” he said, adding that “if we are in Spain or Utah or New York, as long as we are together, we’re home.”
It’s something that his wife has talked about previously, too. In an interview with Glamour, Lively discussed the couple’s agreement not to work at the same time, saying, “What fulfills both me and my husband is our family. Knowing that, everything else comes second. We’ve each given up stuff we loved in order to not work at the same time.”
And the couple’s marriage advice wasn’t their only big news last night. They also revealed that they’re expecting their third child together (the couple already has daughters James, 4, and Inez, 2) as Lively stepped out in a yellow dress that showed off her baby bump for the first time.
