New Batman Robert Pattinson Convincingly Explains Why Batman Isn’t Really a Superhero

The next Bruce Wayne makes a great point.

You already know that Robert Pattinson will be the next actor to play Batman on screen. What you don’t know is how Pattinson is planning on playing the character, as previous portrayers from Michael Keaton to Christian Bale to Kevin Conroy to Ben Affleck have all put their own spin on the character.

A new interview Pattinson did with Today touches on a lot of his career, from the Twilight series and Harry Potter to his retreat into indies like The Lighthouse, an Oscar contender this year. But we were most excited to hear about what he thinks of the character he’ll play in his triumphant return to the blockbuster Hollywood franchise.

When he’s asked why he wanted to play a superhero, Pattinson has to instantly issue a correction.

“Batman’s not a superhero!” he says under his breath, before elaborating.

“It doesn’t count, you need to have magical powers to be a superhero.”

Despite the lack of supernatural abilities, Pattinson said that his response to the offer to do the film was an “immediate yes.”

“I love, I love the kind of history. I love every iteration of how it’s been played,” he said.

Pattinson said that he loved “every iteration of how it’s been played,” and beyond playing the character as a non-superhero, he didn’t offer much by way of clues to his own performance.

What does come out through the entire interview? How excited Pattinson is to become the Batman.

“I think Matt Reeves has got a really good direction for it,” he said. “I’m very kind of eager to get started on it.”

The Batman is slated to come to theaters on June 25, 2021.
