RIP Justin Townes Earle: Musicians, Celebrities Pay Tribute

His legacy lives on.

Singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle, son of prolific musician Steve Earle, sadly passed away at the age of 38 yesterday, August 23rd. On the “Midnight at the Movies” singer’s Facebook page, friends and families paid tribute to the talented musician, writing, “It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin. So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys.” His cause of death has not yet been released to the public. Earle was nominated for Artist of the Year in 2012 by the Americana Music Association and he won Emerging Act of the Year in 2009, according to CNN. Earle released his last album, “The Saint of Lost Causes,” last year. He also comes from a famously talented family: Earle’s father is the folk and country rocker Steve Earle. Once news of Earle’s too-soon passing was announced, many celebrities were quick to share their praises of the talented artist

Billy Bragg, a British singer-songwriter, wrote on Twitter, “I’m saddened to hear that we have lost Justin Townes Earle and at such a young age. I worked with him last year and found him to be a brilliant songwriter and generous soul. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.”

Margo Price, a musician from Nashville, wrote, “sending love and condolences to Steve Earle and the entire family of Justin Townes Earle… he was always kind to me and he’s gone too soon.”

Stephen King paid tribute, saying, “It appears that Justin Townes Earle has died. I hope it’s a hoax but fear it is not. What a loss.”

Folk musician Frank Turner wrote, “Sad news about Justin Townes Earle. We played a handful of shows together over the years. He was a week younger than me but always felt like an older soul. A kind guy and a wonderful songwriter. RIP.”

Courtney Marie Andrews tweeted, “Rest In Peace, Justin Townes Earle. Only played a handful of shows with him, but his performances were always so inspiring.”

After news of his passing broke, Earle’s Facebook page displayed the lyrics from his song Looking For A Place to Land, “I’ve crossed oceans / Fought freezing rain and blowing sand / I’ve crossed lines and roads and wondering rivers / Just looking for a place to land,” in a fitting, forlorn tribute.

It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin. So many…
