While Prince Harry may be getting most of the Royal brother buzz lately due to his wife’s pregnancy, William still managed to make some parenting headlines when he proudly revealed that his son George is taking ballet classes. Earlier this week, Prince William was speaking with Junior, a 14-year-old street dancer whose mission is to fight bullying. While William was sharing some words of encouragement with Junior, he revealed that his young son also has a burgeoning passion for dance, specifically ballet.
“George is doing dancing as well, he loves it,” William told the teen.
William then shared some advice that his mom gave him when she was alive: “If it’s something you love, you do what you love. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Keep at it.”
A lot of dads would probably be less than enthusiastic about their sons doing ballet due to outdated ideas about gender norms and masculinity. And with William and George constantly living in the spotlight, it would be easy to imagine William pushing his son towards polo or soccer to emphasize the manliness of his five-year-old son. But to William’s credit, he seemed to embrace his son’s love for ballet and is more focused on his son being happy than living up to society’s foolish expectations.
Prince George is already beloved as a fashion icon and as a general goofball who brings a certain level of relatability to the Royal Family. And now, fans can delight in knowing that the young prince is well on his way to becoming a world-class dancer with the support of his old man.
