Pink and Carey Hart have long been both parent and relationship goals. But it’s taken a lot of work to get there, according to the pop singer who revealed in a recent interview that the secret to their happy marriage is years of couples counseling and therapy.
“Carey and I have been in couples counseling almost our entire 17 years we’ve been together,” she confessed to Carson Daly last week in an interview for the TODAY show, adding that “it’s the only reason we’re still together.”
Pink went on to describe that both she and her husband had rough childhoods. “We come from broken families, and we had no model of, how are we supposed to keep this family together and live this crazy life?” Pink said. “And there’s no model. There’s no book that says, ‘Here’s how to do this.'”
So their solution? “We go to counseling, and it works.” The couple, who got married in Costa Rica in January 2006, now have two kids together: Willow Sage, seven, and Jameson Moon, two.
And it isn’t the first time that Pink has gotten candid about the ups and downs of marriage. “Monogamy is work! But you do the work and it’s good again,” she told The Guardian in 2017.
The Grammy Award winner then joked, “There are moments where I look at [Hart] and… he’s a good man. He’s a good dad… And then I’ll look at him and go: I’ve never liked you. There’s nothing I like about you. We have nothing in common. I don’t like any of the shit you like. I don’t ever wanna see you again. Then two weeks later I’m like, things are going so good, you guys.”
