The Internet is Loving This Photo of a Dad ‘Breastfeeding’ His Newborn

Neubauer suggests that all dads actually give it a go.

After his wife began suffering complications from the birth of their first child, Wisconsin dad Maxamillian Kendall Neubauer rose to the occasion like never before and actually breastfed his newborn daughter using a fake nipple shield and a feeding tube. Though everything was going normally for a time, after doctors induced labor on Neubauer’s wife, she proceeded to have two seizures and wasn’t able to immediately breastfeed her baby rather than use a bottle.

When Nurse Cybil Martin-Dennehy came to Neubauer with an invention of her own that would allow him to breastfeed the baby in his wife’s stead, not only did he not hesitate, but was excited about the idea, saying “I’ll try anything once.”

In a viral Facebook post about the incident, Neubauer wrote, “I was fortunate enough to slap on a suction cup fake nipple. Being the first to breastfeed da baby!!!!”

Given that Martin-Dennehy had never successfully convinced a man to actually strap on the breastfeeding apparatus, suffice it to say,  she was just as excited as Neubauer.

“I was just shocked. This is the greatest night of my life. I can’t believe this is happening,” Cybil said. “I have tried multiple times. Usually, I get a look of disbelief. Why would I ask something so crazy? But Max was 100 percent. He is like, heck yes, let’s do this.”

At the end of the day, Neubauer ultimately found the experience to be pretty enriching and would recommend it to any new dad out there.

“If you are in that situation like I was, when April had no ability to do it, if you have the opportunity, go for it. It’s worth it, definitely.”
