Parents Take Hilarious ‘Empty Nest’ Photos to Celebrate Their Last Kid Leaving For College

While some parents get sad thinking about their kids leaving home, these two couldn't be more ready for some much-deserved peace and quiet.

For many parents, the day their last kid leaves home for good can be difficult to endure, as they are filled with sadness watching the focal point of their existence for several decades wander off to begin their own journey. But for some parents, that day is a cause for celebration because it means that they are finally getting the chance to relax and enjoy themselves for the first time in years. In fact, two parents were so excited when their final kid headed off to college that they decided to have an “empty nest” photoshoot that has gone completely viral.

Vicky and Jeff Piper are the parents of two kids, the youngest of whom headed off to college in early August. The couple decided that they wanted to commemorate the moment in some way and they eventually came up with the ingenious idea of having an ’empty nest’ photo shoot.

“We had just dropped our son at school and I was receiving all these texts asking if we were ok, have I stopped crying, your house is going to be so quiet and what are you guys going to do now?” Vicky said. “We just had a different perspective of empty nest.”

Unsurprisingly, the photos quickly went viral, as Vicky’s Facebook post has received nearly 200,000 likes and been shared more than 44,000 times in a little over a week. While it may seem a bit cruel for parents to be openly rejoicing the fact that their kids won’t be around anymore, the photo shoot was clearly a good-natured joke. Plus, Vicky told Good Morning America that their kids have been entirely supportive of their parents’ viral photos.

“The kids are cracking up [at the photos],” Piper said. “They are like, ‘You are having too much fun,’ but they are super happy for us.”
