On Thursday, Minaj made the announcement in a simple and heartfelt tweet.
“I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.”

What does Nicki Minaj mean by “have my family.” Well, she has either married, or is about to marry Kenneth Petty, so it seems likely she is planning on starting a family with him. Since 2018, Minaj has been publicly criticized for dating Petty, since he is, apparently, a registered sex offender. Minaj has consistently dismissed these criticisms.
Nicki Minaj’s real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, and it seems that right now, she’s part of a trend of huge celebrities who are leaving their careers, seemingly on a high note. Just like the NFL’s Andrew Luck, Nicki Minaj seems to be putting a huge amount of value on raising a family and less value on continuing to be a famous person. And as far as personal life goes, it seems like she says it all; she’s going to be very private with her family and doesn’t want anyone in the media “checkin” on her. For parents who are waiting on the next round of “likes” from Instagram photos, they’ve posted of their kids, maybe it’s time to learn a thing or two from one of the greatest rappers of the 21st century. Taking a break to be offline and just be with your family is fantastic.
