Pixar just dropped a new trailer for Incredibles 2 that gives fans of the original a look at the family’s new life as superheroes in a world that’s slowly warming up to the idea of a super mom fighting crime. What does that mean for Mr. Incredible? That he’s staying at home with a family full of superheroes. No small job.
Mr. Incredible looks worn down as he deals with his daughter’s frustration that they have to live their lives in secret, his son’s refusal to eat vegetables, and the fact that his baby is basically a nuclear warhead with cheeks. Fans also get a quick look at the film’s new and decidedly more ominous villain. It looks like the Incredible family is dealing with a baddy that reads more like a seasoned evildoer than a deranged fanboy.
The film’s apparent focus on less traditional family dynamics makes a lot of sense in 2018 as well. Based on a Pew study, the number of stay-at-home dads increased from just over 1.5 million in 2004, when The Incredibles came out, to well over two million in 2012. Either way, Incredibles 2 looks like it’ll be a nice break from the flurry of flashy or violent superhero fanfare hitting theaters this year.
Incredibles 2 is slated for release on June 15th.
