Since the Season 7 finale, Game of Thrones fans have been desperately missing all the bloodshed, betrayal, and incest that thrives in Westeros but a newly-released teaser trailer is offering fans a glimpse at the final season of the beloved HBO show, including when it will air.
Unfortunately, the 90-second teaser does not feature any footage from the upcoming eighth season of GoT, instead showing scenes from the previous seven seasons to remind people of everything that has happened that has led us to this point, such as Cersei’s Walk of Shame, Daenerys being engulfed in flames, and Tyrion facing trial for the murder of his nephew King Joffrey.
Interestingly, much of the trailer seems to place the focus on the battle for the Iron Throne, with the lone dialogue featured in the first 30 seconds of the trailer being Cersei’s iconic quote from the first season: Cersei’s iconic quote: “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.” However, the second half of the trailer then shifts the focus back to the big picture, showing the Ice King while Jon Snow reminds viewers, “There’s only one war that matters and it’s here.”
While fans may be disappointed by the lack of new scenes in the trailer, they should be delighted by the fact that the trailer confirms that the new season will be coming in April 2019. The exact date is not currently known but an April premiere is consistent with previous seasons, except for Season 7, which premiered in July 2017.
