‘MythBusters’ Will Return to TV, but This Time, Children Are Doing the Busting

This is kind of like your eighth grade science class — but much better.

Adam Savage thought he was out of the myth-busting game for good, but they pulled him back in. It’s been three years since MythBusters went off the air. It returns—sort of—tonight on the Science Channel. The iconic show, which was on for more than 13 years, has been spun-off into MythBusters Jr.

But it’s not just for your five-year-olds. The show is for you too. Savage is joined by six young co-hosts—Valerie Castillo, Jesse Lawless, Allie Weber, Rachel Pizzolato, Elijah Horland, and Cannan Huey-You—who will help debunk or confirm myths. It’s meant to get a new generation excited and curious about STEM, but it can be enjoyed by viewers of any age.

“The show is of the DNA of MythBusters but it is also different. It was really important to us to not just copy MythBusters, but to let the enthusiasm of the kids be what drives this narrative,” Savage told Popular Mechanics. “There are these six incredible hungry brains all with radically different personalities and approaches to problem-solving.”

His cohosts all have super impressive resumes for all being under the age of 16. Among the six of them, there’s an inventor, a robotics champion, a welder, a woodworker, a sophomore in college and two programmers.

“One of the key differences between MythBusters and MythBusters Jr. is that really the experiments on Jr. are largely of the do try this at home variety,” says Savage to Popular Mechanics.

Savage and other guests will guide the six through experiments. He told Popular Mechanics that hopes that MythBusters Jr. will inspire parents to try out some of these experiments at home with their kids.
