Here Is the Most Popular Halloween Candy in Each State

How the hell is candy corn this popular?

Each Halloween, Americans spend approximately $2.7 billion on candy, which is about half of the Yankees current payroll. decided to do a deeper dive into the candy-consuming habits of Americans by finding the most popular candy in each of the 50 states (and D.C.), which was determined by tabulating the most pounds of candy ordered on per state.  The resulting list is likely to shock and offend many, if only for the sheer insanity of candy corn’s popularity.

Now, while Candy Store’s list and interactive map certainly have its fair share of surprises, there were also a fair number of conventional candy choices. M&Ms are most popular in four states (including California and its 40 million citizens), along with Snickers, Milky Way Bars, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. However, none of those four iconic candies could keep up with Sour Patch Kids, which is the most popular selection in a whopping five states, including New York, which explains why people on the subway look like they’re constantly chewing something tart.

Six states defied all conventional Halloween wisdom by having candy corn as their most popular candy. This means candy corn is the most popular candy in more states than any other candy, which feels like a violation of the Constitution. Also, it’s a very fitting thing that Delaware’s candy of choice is the boring Life Savers. Life Savers are sort of like The Big Bang Theory:  extremely popular, but have you ever met someone who really enjoys them?
