With Christmas quickly approaching, two mom bloggers have created a hilarious—and very relatable—video highlighting the difference between being a parent in 1988 vs. 2018. The clip, titled “1980′s Vs 2018 Moms: Holiday Edition,” stars Meredith Masony of “That’s Inappropriate” and Tiffany Jenkins of “Juggling the Jenkins.”
The video, which was posted last week, opens with the 2018 mom (played by Jenkins) baking cookies from scratch for the holiday party while the 1988 mom (played by Masony) offers a spread of Entenmann’s, fruitcake and store-bought eggnog.
Then, while the Pinterest-crazed 2018 mom searches for YouTube tutorials on perfect present wrapping, the 1988 mom is satisfied just shoving the gifts in bags, saying “This is so easy… I’m gonna have so much free time!”
Jenkins and Masony also compare Christmas lists to show the expectations of kids today vs. kids in the 80’s. The 2018 list includes a Nintendo Switch, a trampoline, Air Jordans, a hoverboard and even an excursion to the Galapagos Islands. And while the 1988 list also includes a Nintendo, the mom says her kid will instead get “socks and underpants. That’s what everyone is getting this year and you’re going to love it.”
And throughout the entire video, the duo pokes fun at today’s protective and hands-on parenting. In one scene, the 2018 mom makes sure her kids are properly bundled up before a whirlwind day of family holiday activities. The 1980’s mom, on the other hand, sends her kids outside on their own with a simple warning not to get frostbite.
It’s not the first time that Jenkins and Masony have teamed up, either. The two bloggers made a similarly funny video back in the fall, titled “1980′s Mom Vs 2018 Mom Halloween Edition,” which also went viral.
