Every parent wants to help their child be successful but some take it a little too far. And one mom took it way too far when she was caught trying to trip a nine-year-old player on the opposing team at her son’s youth basketball game.
The incident, which took place during a matchup between Cornerstone Basketball Academy and Folsom Elite Basketball Academy at the Hardwood Palace 10-and-under tournament in Rocklin, Calif., was caught on video by another parent.
In the clip, the mom, who is sitting courtside, sticks out her leg just far enough so that when one of her son’s opponents dribbles by, he almost trips and falls. Fortunately, the boy narrowly misses her foot and is able to continue down the sideline—but other parents and fans are outraged.
“One of the kids during one of the timeouts had said, ‘Hey coach, there’s a parent on the sideline, it’s a woman you know, I think she’s wearing a pink hat,’ Eugene Solano, director of the Cornerstone team, told FOX40. The player then said, “‘And she’s telling their kids to elbow us in the face.'”
According to the manager of Hardwood Palace, the mom has been banned from future tournaments at the facility. Additionally, the directors of Folsom Elite Basketball Academy released a statement to FOX40 explaining that the issue has been resolved: “We have addressed the situation with the parent involved directly. It is our policy to manage all disciplinary matters in a way that is effective and productive so we can eliminate incidents in the future.”
