A few months ago, boxing legend and vegan extraordinaire Mike Tyson released a series of cryptic videos of him training for… well, it wasn’t clear. But he was definitely back in the boxing ring — and fans were dying to know why. Well, now, fans don’t have to wonder anymore, as Andy Foster, the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, has confirmed that Mike Tyson booked a date to fight another boxing legend, Roy Jones Jr., at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. That date is not too far away — the titans plan to clash on September 12 of this year — so fans can get excited about seeing two absolute legends in the field gearing up for another fight.
This fight, an eight-round exhibition, will be a little bit different than what most boxing and sports fans are used to. Foster said, “This isn’t a situation where they’re going out there trying to take each other’s heads off. They’re going to be in there moving around the ring and letting fans see these legends.” That’s a relief. I’m sure not many people want to see two 50-year-old men, even if they could beat us all to a pulp, beat up each other that bad.
Although the fight will happen in just a short period of time, it’s unclear where the fight will air. Still, fans of boxing will relish seeing Tyson and Jones Jr. back in the ring, duking it out.
