Party time! Excellent! The guy who made sketch comedy gold in the nineties on Saturday Night Live is back. Mr. Austin Powers himself, Mike Meyers is launching a new comedy series for Netflix in which he will be playing multiple characters.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that Meyers is the executive producer and star of an untitled new comedy series. Meyers said: “I love creating characters, and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in.”
There will be six episodes in total, each 30 minutes long. In format, this seems similar to what Netflix did for Bob Odenkirk and David Cross in their series W/Bob and David. Though not actually a continuation of HBO’s Mr. Show, the Netflix show W/Bob and David accomplished pretty much the same thing.
This so doesn’t mean Mike Meyers will be doing any of his old characters (like Austin Powers or Wayne Campbell) for the new Netflix series, but it stands to reason, that on some level, this series is like a miniature version of a nineties SNL reboot.
No other details have been released at this time. But, there’s every reason to believe this will be good. In a word: Schwing!
