‘The ABCs of Metallica’ Is a Kid-Friendly History of the Legendary Band

Not for everyone. But, that’s kind of the point.

If you’re looking for a new bedtime book to read to your kids just before they drift off to never-never land, look no further.

The ABCs of Metallica is the rhyming, illustrated, alphabetized story of the seminal heavy metal band. It was written by the band with Howie Abrams, a music executive turned music writer, and illustrated by Michael “Kaves” McLee, a legendary graffiti artist.

Metallica is one of the most commercially successful bands of all time. Their last six studio albums have debuted at number one, and they’ve sold more than 125 million albums worldwide. They’ve also garnered plenty of critical acclaim, including nine Grammys and the Polaris Prize, colloquially known as the “Nobel Prize of music.”

And seeing as the band has been around since 1981, many of its fans are now parents, and some of its early fans are even grandparents. On some level, every parent dreams of the music that inspired them in their youth inspiring their kids in the same way. This book is a valuable prod in that direction. And even if your kids don’t become full-time headbangers, time spent reading it and listening to Master of Puppets is time not spent watching Paw Patrol and listening to “Baby Shark” for the quintillionth time.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of the book will benefit Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, a non-profit “dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.”

It will be released on November 26, but it is available for preorder at their online merch store now.
