McDonald’s Is Busting Out a New Spicy Chicken and People are Losing It

"This is the most important thing to ever happen to me and that's not even being dramatic."

McDonald’s has been a longstanding favorite among parents who want to treat their kids or themselves to a quick meal. When the worldwide pandemic hit, parents have been uneasy about returning to take-out or in-person dining, but McDonald’s has a plan to bring people back: spicy chicken.

The fast-food company announced it is introducing a brand new chicken nugget flavor—the first in 40 years, and an original dipping sauce to go with it. Launching in September, McDonald’s is dropping  Spicy Chicken McNuggets, and a new dipper called the Mighty Hot Sauce.

The new McNuggets have a breaded tempura coating fans have come to love, but with the addition of cayenne and chilli peppers, it’s a brand-new recipe. The dipping sauce is a blend of garlic, crushed red pepper, and spicy chillies. Both the nuggets and the dipper are available for a limited time only.

“Our customers have been asking for Spicy McNuggets for some time now,” said Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu innovation, in a blog post announcing the new item, according to CNN. Given the response to the news on social media, this is precisely what people have been waiting for to turn 2020 around.

Adding to the joy people are going to get from the new menu items, at the same time as the drop of nuggets and sauce, McDonald’s will also be offering a collaboration with a new Chips Ahoy! McFlurry. The new dessert offering will feature the familiar creamy vanilla soft serve we’ve come to know from the fast-food chain, with the addition of chunky bits of cookie pieces topped with a light caramel swirl.

The new menu items launch across the US starting September 16, 2020.
