Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of those rare celebrity couples that manages to maintain a relatively high profile and level of success, all while seeming happy, down to earth, and able to keep their dirty laundry from getting everywhere. Bell recently wrote a list of things that keep her marriage to Shepard healthy and it’s pretty spot-on.
The list, which Bell posted to Twitter, was made for two of her friends who are tying the knot soon. In the post, Bell said that she wanted to congratulate the couple and decided to share some wisdom with them.
While having what Bell called “necessary separateness” is good, the actress also noted that the ability to be totally open with one’s partner is what “begets connection and intimacy.” Bell also wrote on the importance of rejoicing “in what makes the other person happy” as well as loving them despite all of their personal shortcomings. According to Bell, doing that is the “most powerful loving thing that you can do”
To close it off, she reassured couples that “everyone is doing the best they can with what they’ve got” so to keep a relationship healthy and deal with the issues that inevitably arise, couples should all aim to have a “larger emotional toolbox.”
Though the note was posted on Valentines Day, it’s hard to argue that this isn’t some every day. Here’s the full post:
