Kristen Bell knows the struggle that is trying to unload the car while also preventing her kids from running out into traffic—so she’s come up with a solution that she’s sharing with parents everywhere. On Instagram, The Good Place actress revealed the car safety hack she uses with daughters Lincoln, 5, and Delta, 3, that she calls “hands on the circle.”
“‘Hands on the circle’ (the circle is the gas cap) was invented by my brilliant sister in law, and has thus far kept all kiddos safe from any oncoming traffic while I unload the trunk,” she wrote in the post’s caption, adding the hashtags “#momlife” and “#momhacks.” The photo shows her two daughters’ hands placed over the gas cap of her car.
While her hack may seem like a fun game to her daughters, the danger of parking lots and traffic is all too real for young children. According to a recent report from Safe Kids, motor vehicle collisions are the number one cause of unintentional death for kids up to the age of 19 and an average of 37 children per year were killed in parking lots or driveways between 2007 and 2011.

"hands on the circle!" The phrase we say as we jump out of the car. "Hands on the circle" (the circle is the gas cap)was invented by my brilliant sister in law, and has thus far kept all kiddos safe from any oncoming traffic while I unload the trunk. #momlife #momhacks #mom
Based on the comments on the 38-year-old’s post, parents are extremely grateful for Bell’s tip. Some have even added their own variations of the game. “I have a heart decal on my car and ours is ‘Hand over the heart!'” wrote one follower, while another noted that she uses a similar trick but with the car tire instead of the gas cap.
