Keanu Reeves will appear in Toy Story 4, according to one of his fellow cast members. Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, told the entire world—and Jimmy Fallon—on The Tonight Show that the Matrix and John Wick star has been turned into a toy.
“They really will surprise you with the toys they came up with,” Allen said. “Characters came back, new guys in it that are great. Keanu Reeves has got a great part.”
Even though Reeves has got a very impressive resume, he’s never voiced a character in an animated movie before. This is a big first for him. It’s also another reason for fans to be excited for Toy Story 4.
“Actually, a little inside story,” Allen said about Reeves’ secret role. “Even he said—gentle, wonderful guy that he is— ‘this sounds too much like Buzz Lightyear.’ And his character does have an edge to that. And the guy said, ‘So we calmed him down a little bit,’ and they reminded me his toy is only that big.”
We have no idea what Reeves’ toy will look like yet, but Disney did give fans a sneak peek at some other new characters in two trailers for Toy Story 4. In the first trailer, they introduced the world to Woody’s newest pal, Forky (Tony Hale). Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele of Key & Peele, whose roles were revealed in the second teaser for Toy Story 4, are playing carnival prizes named Ducky and Bunny.
It does sound like Allen is a little intimidated by Reeves’ toy counterpart. Reeves is great at playing stoic and lethal characters. For Buzz and Woody’s sake, hopefully he isn’t the villain. Otherwise, our heroes are in big trouble.
Toy Story 4 comes out June 21, 2019.
