There are few movies as action-packed and over-the-top as the John Wick franchise. And with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum coming out later this week, Keanu Reeves sat down with Stephen Colbert on Friday night to discuss the film—and more specifically, the fight scenes.
“John Wick action is a particular kind of action,” Reeves explained on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, describing that while he does have a stuntman who fills in when necessary (like when he gets hit by a car or falls off something), Reeves does all of the “action” scenes himself.
One of those scenes, for instance, is a horse fight. He laughed to Colbert, “It’s John Wick! Instead of just riding a horse, you have to have a gunfight and all of that stuff, too.”
And when Colbert asked Reeves what fighting on a horse was like, the 54-year-old, who said he trained with Tad Griffith who is one of the best stunt horse riders, was quick to respond. “It’s fun, it’s really fun,” he said.
Then Colbert questioned whether he was nervous, given that he could’ve gotten thrown or worse, trampled. Reeves replied “well yeah, you could die… that could happen” but that there was a whole safety system set up which apparently involved the horse strapped in a rig behind a truck.
While Colbert closed the segment with a sneak peek at one of the movie’s scenes, fans don’t have long to wait before they can see the whole thing. John Wick: Chapter 3 is set to be released in theaters nationwide on May 17.
