Pokémon GO was one of the biggest gaming phenomena in recent memory, with millions of fans around the world frantically searching the streets for rare Pokémon. Now, a new mobile game is hoping to create a similar level of fan insanity by asking one simple question: What if instead of Pokémon, you could catch and collect dinosaurs? That’s the basic premise for Jurassic World Alive, an upcoming augmented reality mobile game that will allow users to interact with the awe-inspiring and terrifying dinos of the Jurassic Park franchise.
Ludia, the developer behind Jurassic World Alive, announced the new game earlier this month while providing a few teaser details as to what dino fans can expect. Players will, of course, be able to walk the streets of their neighborhood finding and collecting different dinosaurs. But there’s a lot more to the game than that, Ludia explained. Beyond simply catching a raptor or pterodactyl, players can also incubate the dinosaurs they have caught, as well as create their own new species by extracting DNA from the dinos they caught. And to top it all off, players can even have their new dinosaurs fight other players’ genetically modified dinos to see which ones truly reign supreme.
“With Jurassic World Alive, our goal is for audiences to be fully immersed into a world with living dinosaurs in a way that’s never been possible until today,” said Alex Thabet, the President and CEO of Ludia, in an official statement. “We’re giving them the opportunity to explore and connect with likeminded players while building and interacting with these powerful prehistoric species.”
No official release date has been announced for Jurassic World Alive, but it is expected to come out around the same time as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The movie hits theaters on June 22.
