Kids are resourceful and the awesome kid who starred in Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood had all her bases covered when she brought her own sandwich to the Oscars. 10-year-old Julia Butters was asked on the red carpet what she had in her bag, and she apologized to vegans before saying, “I put a sandwich in my bag… Sometimes the food here is not for me.”
“There is a sandwich in my purse because I was smart this time,” she explained further when speaking with Entertainment Tonight. “The other awards I was hungry, I was starving, and sometimes, either, they don’t have food or I don’t care for the food.

She’s not wrong either when you look at some of the food offerings at the Oscars which is supposed to impress the swanky Hollywood elite. Menu items such as smoked salmon Oscar statues, homemade tofu, and apple and vegetable spring rolls aren’t everyday favorites for 10-year-old kids. Sometimes a simple turkey sandwich is all you need.
Butters worked with Leonardo DiCaprio and the late Luke Perry in the film Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, where she played an actress starring in a western alongside DiCaprio’s actor character. Butters got along well with DiCaprio who was “protective” of her while on set and made sure the adult swearing was kept to a minimum. She also called Perry “fatherly” and spoke fondly of a piece of poetry he had given to her.
Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, but took home two awards for Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Production Design. If there was an award for the smartest use of a handbag, Butters would take the win.
