John Legend and Chrissy Teigen rank, perhaps, only below the Obamas, Chip and Joanna, and Jay-Z and Beyonce on the list of America’s favorite couples. So when one of them speaks to the media, as John recently did in an interview with The Times, people take note. This time, Legend opened up about being a husband, father, and a social media behemoth, as well as offered a glimpse into how the power couple makes their marriage work ⏤ partly, with gifts.
Okay, that’s not all of it but Legend did gush about how much he loves his wife, noting that he often sends Teigen little gifts to show her how much he still cares.
“Buy flowers every once in a while, let the person know that you’re still turned on by them. I’m more attracted to Chrissy now than I was 10 years ago. It’s more than just physical now. We’re a team. It makes me feel more connected to her than ever.”
Legend also talked about the strong social media presence he and his wife have created, and how it’s allowed them to share their lives directly with their fans. For example, Teigen announced her second pregnancy with an Instagram video.
“It definitely allows us to self-publish and self-filter. That control, when used wisely, is really cool. We don’t discuss every argument or every dark moment that we go through because it’s not everyone’s business, but the way we represent ourselves is honest.”
Of course, Teigen is a bit of a legend on Twitter and has been known to roast just about everyone, including her husband. Fortunately, Legend says he doesn’t have a problem with his wife’s sense of humor and notes that she makes him “laugh every day.”
Legend also spoke about being a dad. He and Teigen already have one child, their one-year-old daughter Luna, and will be having their second, a boy, later this year. While it’s too early to be having the sex talk, Legend admits that he doesn’t want his kids to grow up confused or afraid about the birds and the bees.
“But I don’t want to be one of those parents who makes their kids feel like sex is evil. I just want them to know that there is a time and place for everything in their life. I want them to be educated before the actual experience.”
Finally, Legend opened up about raising his one-year-old daughter Luna in the #MeToo era, and how he and Teigen are trying to raise her to feel empowered.
“I want her to be healthy and confident and in control of her own decisions. I don’t want her ever to feel pressured to do anything she doesn’t want to. Hopefully she’ll meet and date guys who are respectful and emotionally intelligent.”
