Joke’s On the Haters: Joaquin Phoenix Only Wears Eco-Friendly Tuxedos

Same tux, different events

Paul Drinkwater/NBC

We’re in full swing of what Hollywood likes to call “Award season”—the time of year where all those fancy televised award shows happen. People look forward to hearing who has won what, and there’s always a massive focus on fashion at these events. Now, Joaquin Phoenix is up for some awards this year and has already walked the red carpet of the Golden Globes, which means we’re not going to do any guessing of what he’s going to be wearing at the next event. And that’s because he’s vowed to wear the same tux to every event this year. This is the ultimate dad move; Pick one outfit and stick with it. The only thing here is that Joaquin is being applauded for this. But Why?

According to an Instagram share from eco-friendly fashion designer, Stella McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix is keeping his fashion choices simple in an effort to do better for the environment. “This man is a winner… wearing custom Stella because he chooses to make choices for the future of the planet and all of its creatures,” she writes in the caption of a photo of Phoenix holding a Golden Globe award he won this year for the best actor in a drama. “He has also chosen to wear this same Tux for the entire award season to reduce waste. I am proud and honored to join forces with you, Joaquin, keep inspiring and keep shining your light.”

The tuxedo is a pretty classic one, not a fashion standout, but you can’t go wrong with this signature look. This makes it easier for him to wear the same one at every event and we’re not sure that anyone would have noticed anyway if no one said anything.

Fatherly IQ
  1. Do you plan on sending your kids back to school this fall?
Yes. I trust that our schools are taking precautions.
No. We don't feel that proper precautions are in place.
I'm not sure yet. It depends on how things progress.
Thanks for the feedback!

Either way, good for him for being conscious of his impact on the environment.
