We’re still early into the new year but the best moment of 2020 (so far) may have happened on Instagram, when Noelle Sheldon, who played Rachel’s daughter Emma along with her twin Cali on Friends, celebrated her character’s 18th birthday in a hilarious reference to an iconic episode of the hit show.
“Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!! (ft. my poorly done photoshop) Hope everyone has an excellent year full of family, friends, and laughter!!” Noelle wrote on an Instagram post.
For those of us who don’t have every episode of the show memorized, Noelle is referencing the episode where the Friends are celebrating Emma’s first birthday. But like a lot of one-year-olds, Emma ends up falling asleep so the gang ends up making a video for their shared goddaughter that she is supposed to open on her 18th birthday, which would land in 2020.
In the episode, when Chandler and Monica record their message, Chandler can’t resist throwing out a one-liner, saying, “It’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?” Based on Noelle’s Instagram, it seems like she certainly did.
This isn’t the first time the twins have referenced their time on the show, as Cali previously posted a couple of throwback photos on her Instagram to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show’s debut. And with Friends having officially left Netflix this year, moments like these help us get our dose of the friends gang until it returns to the world of streaming on HBO Max in May.
