Guys who have winning streaks on game shows that prove how smart they are can come across smug. Let’s be honest, as much as we admire James Holzhauer’s talent for winning at Jeopardy! that admiration always comes with a little bit of jealousy. But, for those harboring any ill-will toward Holzhauer; prepare to change your mind. This guy is a gambler with a heart of gold. On Sunday, Holzhauer donated $10,000 to a children’s charity called Communities in Schools. The goal? To prevent kids from dropping out of school.
$10,000 bucks might seem like a lot for the average family struggling to make ends meet, but for Holzhauer, this is just a small portion of the 2.065 Million he’s already accumulated during his on-going record-breaking Jeopardy! streak. Still, what might be a drop-in-the-bucket for a Jeopardy-millionaire, can totally change the lives of kids at risk of not finishing their public education. In fact, as many, many experts have pointed out (including bestselling author James Patterson) a lack of a good education is often directly linked with kids being involved in crime at an early age.
“We are incredibly moved by the generosity of James and Melissa Holzhauer for their $10,000 donation today,” the nonprofit Communities in Schools of Nevada wrote on Facebook this week, according to CBS News.
It is unclear as of his writing if Holzhauer and his wife will continue to donate the portions of his winnings to charity. Also, as of this writing, if Holzhauer’s streak has not yet been broken, and he is close to beating the 2.5 million record set by former Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings.
