IKEA Recalls Baby Bibs Because of a Choking Hazard

If you have one of these bibs, stop using it ASAP.

IKEA is recalling its MATVRÅ infant bibs because they can pose a choking hazard to young children.

The bibs were sold in a two-pack with one blue with a green polka-dotted edge and one red with a yellow polka-dotted edge. The bibs have a snap on the back of the neck that can detach and are small enough to potentially be swallowed by an unwitting youngster.

The company, known more for its assemble it yourself furniture than baby gear, said that it had received two reports of the snap detaching, neither of which occurred in the United States or led to an injury.

The recall, which was issued voluntarily by the company in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Fast Track Recall program, affects about 7,000 units, or about 14,000 bibs. They were sold at IKEA stores and on its website from August through September of this year for about $2.

If you have any of these bibs lying around, you should stop using them immediately. You can return them, with or without a receipt, to any IKEA store for a full refund.

The recall does not affect other IKEA MATVRÅ bibs with fruit and vegetable patterns because they are constructed differently out of different materials. If you have any questions, you can call the company at 888-966-4532 or visit its website.
