The trailer for the The Craft sequel will put a spell on you. The Blumhouse/Red Wagon Entertainment flick, appropriately titled The Craft: Legacy, released the trailer on Tuesday, September 29, and it’s pretty amazing, especially if you were one of those ‘90s kids obsessed with the cult favorite film or even if you discovered the power the movie holds later. This sequel looks like it’s going to be a similar energy to 1996’s The Craft, just updated for Gen Z.
The sequel, written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, stars Gideon Adlon, Cailee Spaeny, Lovie Simone and Zoey Luna as this generation’s new coven, while also peppering in some nods to the original, including the iconic line “We are the weirdos, mister,” the coven playing “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board,” and some of the original cast appearing in haunting polaroids. Like the ‘90s classic, the film centers on Hannah (Cailee Spaeny) having to move because of her mother’s new relationship. At Hannah’s new school, she becomes friends with the coven as their “fourth,” where they harness their dark magic. The trailer shows their friendship and their powers growing with an eerie remix of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” playing while they try to put a curse on one of the kids in their high school. The film is set to premiere close to Halloween, on October 28 at “The Witching Hour,” and is available on VOD, its original theatrical release cancelled due to COVID-19. Maybe a rewatch of the original is in order to prepare for the upcoming release?
