We’ve just cracked into the fourth month of the year, but it’s never too early on the calendar to start speculating about which baby names are going to end up as the most popular for 2018. Names.org, which is dedicated to all things name-related, has crunched the numbers and predicted the 10 most popular boys and girls baby names from this year. While the list includes some old-favorites, it has a few new contenders that are gaining considerable momentum.
To come up with the list, names.org combined data from recent years with “user interest”. Most of the names on the list don’t come as too much of surprise, as they match up pretty well with BabyCenter’s list of the most popular baby names of 2017. For girls, the primary difference is Sophia, which was the top name for BabyCenter but has fallen out of the top five. Olivia and Emma, meanwhile, maintain their dominance, for girls, grabbing the top spots on the list with Ava, Charlotte, and Mia rounding out the top five. Harper and Evelyn, which were both outside of BabyCenter’s top 10 names, made it onto Name.org’s list.
When it comes to boys’ names, there is a bit more disparity. Jackson, the top name of 2017 according to BabyCenter, is nowhere to be found on Name.org’s top 10. Instead, Benjamin seems to be making a comeback, as it made it into the top three despite being left out of BabyCenter’s list and Babygaga’s predictions for the most popular baby names of 2018.
Will these predictions turn out to be true? Eh, who knows. But for now, take a look at the lists below and see which names may or may not be the most popular names this year.
