Parents of very small children know that buying clothes for your kid is basically like putting expensive fuel into a gas-guzzling car. Just as soon as you think you’re caught up with infant or toddler clothes, they’ve grown out it. From shoes to pants, to sleepwear and even hats, little kids are freaking shapeshifters, and pricey ones at that. However, there is some good news on the subject of kids’ clothes, albeit in the form of slightly bad news. The retailer Gymboree is going out of business, and literally, everything is 60 percent off right now.
Now, I’m not one to get excited about brick-and-mortar stores closing, or hardworking people losing their jobs, but the fact that Gymboree is having a going-out-of-business sale is a silver lining for parents looking to stock up on quality kids stuff. Back in January, the huge kids’ clothing chain filed for bankruptcy and said all 800 stores in the United States would be closing this year. It’s unclear when the last Gymboree store will close, but as of now, any gift cards are apparently still good. The popular “Gym Bucks” program is, sadly over.
But, both online and in the Gymboree stores, literally every item is 60 percent off its original price. This means it’s a very good time to stock up on kids’ clothes not only for right now but for the future, too. Speaking from very recent personal experience, it’s also a good idea to get the same style of a sweatshirt (or whatever) in multiple sizes, that way when your little one outgrows a beloved garment, you can upgrade right away to the next size.
