Women and girls have long experienced the always-frustrating situation of not having pockets in our pants. Buying a pair of jeans to find pockets sewn up or non-existent is frustrating — but they’re not deemed necessary for some reason for girls. It’s frustrating, and 7-year-old Kamryn Gardner was let down by her pocketless jeans from Old Navy when boys had pockets in their jeans from the same brand. So, she did something about it.
According to PEOPLE, Kamryn wrote a letter to Old Navy asking if they could make jeans with real pockets, just like they do for the boys. Even at her young age, she, too, has grown tired of not having somewhere to put her stuff.
“Dear Old Navy. I do not like that the front pockets of the girls’ jeans are fake,” Kamryn started her letter off. A copy of the letter was shared on Facebook by Evening Star Elementary School, where Kamryn attends, in Bentonville, Ark.,
She continued, “I want front pockets because I want to put my hands in them. I also would like to put things in them.”
Oh, the power of persuasion especially when you're adorable! Earlier this year, first graders at Evening Star Elementary…
The first-grader used her new persuasive writing skills she learned in class to ask Old Navy to make a change. “Would you consider making girls jeans with front pockets that are not fake,” she wrote. Adding, “Thank you for reading my request.”
Sure enough, it worked. Old Navy got back to Kamryn with a thank you note and a gift for speaking up. “Thank you so much for taking the time to write us about pockets on girl’s jeans,” a handwritten letter from Old Navy said. “The Old Navy kids product team appreciates your information, it’s great feedback for us as we develop new product.”
The Old Navy team also included a gift for Kamryn for speaking up and getting in touch with them. The company sent her four pairs of jeans in her size – all with pockets.
A rep for Old Navy said in a statement to PEOPLE they love to hear feedback from customers saying it always helps with product development. They add, “With regards to our girl’s denim, we currently offer a number of styles that feature pockets including in our straight, bootcut and jegging styles.”
We love when kids are supported in speaking up for what they want or need. Way to go, Kamryn.
