Mom Throws Gender Reveal Photo Shoot for Transgender Son

It's incredibly cheesy and an incredibly accepting, positive gesture.

Twenty-year-old Adrian Brown recently came out to his mom, Heather Lundberg Green, as transgender. She was accepting and supportive which is good. She also threw an over-the-top gender reveal photo shoot for the two of them, which is great. It’s also going viral.

Gender reveal celebrations are kind of silly, and not just because there’s a neverending race to think up a more creative idea that results in things like blue lasagna and mom getting hit in the head by a falling box. Green knew that and decided to stage the silliest photo shoot possible with her son, complete with blue balloons and confetti, “It’s a boy” signs, and, most hilariously, a swaddle big enough for a 20-year-old.

In her post, Green wrote that she staged the shoot “to celebrate the fact that he silently and bravely stepped out of the race that he never wanted to be in, found his own lane and proceeded to win.”

“I love you, I honor who you are and I respect your courage to be unapologetically you,” she continued.

When your child comes out as trans, the best thing to do is create a photoshoot to celebrate the fact that he silently…

For the cleverness of her idea, the cheesiness of the photos, and the unabashed way she expressed her love for her son, Green is getting a lot of love online. Her post has garnered 24,000 loves, 14,000 likes, and 17,000 shares on Facebook.

Green’s approach to parenting her son is in line with the approach experts recommend. And at a time in which transgender Americans are under attack, it’s genuinely heartwarming to see a mom celebrate her transgender son the same way parents have been celebrating their kids for decades: embarrassing photos.
