Regardless of one’s feelings about Fortnite, it’s impossible to deny the mobile game has a shockingly creative fan base. Whether they’re coming up with new in-game dances or making their own superhero movies using nothing but what the game has to offer, Fortnite players always have a clever way to expand on what’s already there. Players have been continuing their creative streak by with the addition of “playground mode,” which a la Minecraft, lets them craft their own custom structures.
The thing about Fortnite is that, while the controls are relatively simple, actually learning all of the rules can be a huge pain. Moreover, before playground mode, there was no space for new players to ingratiate themselves with the controls without actually playing the game. When it comes to a fast-paced title like Fortnite that can prove a bit too much for newcomers. In playground mode, players can explore the map with up to three friends without having to worry about being killed off by others at any point.
With the slowed down environment has come some truly awe-inspiring structures. One player built a massive shrine to the Nintendo 64, with the structure’s shape mirroring the three-dimensional letter ‘N’ that adorned the classic gaming system. Beyond that, players have built Mario Kart race tracks and enormous ships as well. One player even used playground mode to craft a giant 8-bit sculpture of Nintendo fan favorite Link.
Players can access playground mode by simply scrolling down the list of potential game modes. Though it should be remembered that these things can sometimes roll out slowly before they can be seen by everyone. Moreover, playground mode actually crashed when Epic Games first tried to release it and the company had to wait a whole extra week before players could indulge in the new game mode.
It may seem strange, but Fortnite has taken the world by storm, and doesn’t look like it’s popularity is going to slow down anytime soon. Some kids are literally addicted to it, and the game is already outselling some of its aggressively popular and longstanding peers like GTA V.
