It’s been eight years since we last saw our favorite cowboy and space ranger, but they’re finally back. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like much has changed either. The trailer shows Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr. Potato Head, Mrs. Potato Head, Rex, Hamm, one of the Aliens and Slinky Dog all hold hands and dance around in a circle to Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides, Now.”
Bonnie’s new toys certainly seem happy. They definitely weren’t in Toy Story 3 when Andy got ready to leave for college. He threw some toys out, sold off others, including Woody’s love interest Bo Peep, and the gang was mistakenly taken to the daycare center from hell.
Toy Story 3 was perhaps Pixar’s more heart-wrenching film, leaving many fans who had grown up with Woody and his pals sobbing messes. Everything ended up all right in the end though, Andy gave Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the others to his young neighbor Bonnie.
This 2010 movie was supposed to be the end of the Toy Story franchise, but Disney couldn’t just let Woody and Buzz enjoy retirement. In 2014, Disney announced Toy Story 4. After more than four years of fans waiting for updates, Disney finally dropped this teaser trailer and confirmed that Toy Story 4 would be released on June 21, 2019.
The teaser trailer does introduce fans to a brand new character though. As Slinky Dog slowly dances across the frame, a plastic fork, who is holding onto Slinky Dog and Woody with some pipe-cleaner arms, interrupts the gang’s harmony by screaming “I don’t belong here!” This new character, Forky (voiced by Tony Hale), is clearly one of Bonnie’s craft projects where she’s turned an ordinary object into a toy.
We don’t know much about this new addition to the gang, but Disney released a new synopsis of the film. It hints that the gang is going on another road trip adventure with both “old and new friends.” Hopefully they’ll reunite with the Pizza Planet truck from the first movie… and maybe Woody’s long-lost love. Annie Potts, who voiced Bo Peep, is supposed to return, according to IMDB.
