What kid wouldn’t want to explore a world from a toy’s point of view? Hell, what adult wouldn’t? Disney is betting big on this thinking — as well as on the legacy of Pixar’s most beloved property — and opening a Toy Story Land on June 30th.
Set to open at Disney Hollywood studios, the 11-acre park, per Thrillist, will be built to make visitors feel as small as toys, complete with oversized foliage and enormous statues of Toy Story toys that double as roller coasters and other attractions. Currently, the only confirmed roller coaster is The Slinky Dog Dash, which, per its name, modeled after the Slinky Dog character from the franchise. Disney announced that the coaster will “send riders dipping, dodging and dashing around turns and drops that Andy has created to stretch Slinky and his coils to the max.” Despite the intimidating description, the ride has been billed as family-friendly and likely won’t get too extreme for smaller riders.
Elsewhere, the park continues the park-goer-as-toy-theme. After testing their grit on the Slinky Dog Dash, visitors can grab a bite to eat at “Woody’s Lunch Box” before taking on the park’s tea-cups-esque ride based off the little green aliens from Toy Story. Early reports claim the riders will try to avoid being captured by a vending-machine-claw attached to a UFO swirling around above them. Sounds pretty fun. And, from these renderings, it looks pretty great too.
