Everything You Need to Know About New York’s Massive Legoland Theme Park

The biggest Legoland ever is coming to New York. Here's what you need to know.

Legoland

In the spring of 2020, the famous building block toys known as Legos, which leaped out from the toy box and into the world of video games and films like The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, will construct themselves into an epic theme park just north of New York City. To differentiate itself from the pack of the other eight Lego theme parks around the world, Legoland New York will be the largest Lego park to date and, given the quality of the other endeavors of the franchise, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about this new family vacation spot. Here’s what we know so far.

The company behind Legoland, Merlin Entertainments, announced that the 150-acre park will be located in Goshen, New York, approximately an hour and a half’s drive north of New York City and three hours away from neighboring cities Boston and Philadelphia. And for those traveling from a farther distance, adjacent to the park will be a Lego-themed hotel to provide overnight accommodations year-round.

The hotel will have 250 guest rooms and, “a restaurant with a kid-sized buffet table, a Castle play area and children’s entertainment every night,” said Matt Besterman, a public relations manager for Merlin Entertainments. “It’s our way of extending the Legoland experience.”

That Lego experience involves over 50 shows, rides, and attractions within the park. All spread out over 150-acres of land. And all, naturally, Lego-themed. The park will be made up of eight different sections including  Lego Ninja World for older Lego-loving kids, and  Pirate Shores and Bricktopia for the slightly younger ones. Altogether, the New York Legoland will be the biggest ever.

  1. Do you plan on sending your kids back to school this fall?
Yes. I trust that our schools are taking precautions.
No. We don't feel that proper precautions are in place.
I'm not sure yet. It depends on how things progress.
Thanks for the feedback!

One thing will stay small, however, and that is the Lego mini-land, a tradition in all lego theme parks. At mini-land Lego fans at the New York location will be able to check out Lego brick versions of cities and skylines from all over the world.

While an exact date hasn’t been given for when the new Legoland is set to open, the expectation is that the new park will open its doors come spring of 2020, and we can’t wait!
