Ed Sheeran Is About to Become a Dad

Quarantine made it relatively easy for the pop star to keep the news a secret.

Ed Sheeran is going to be a dad.

The Game of Thrones actor who’s also done a bit of singing in his career and his delightfully named wife Cherry Seaborn are expecting their first child together next summer.

British tabloid The Sun broke the story, citing a source close to the couple who said they were “over the moon.” The couple hasn’t been seen in public since March, when the coronavirus lockdown began. Quarantining has made it easy to keep the pregnancy a secret, so the news is coming out mere weeks before Seaborn’s rumored due date.

“They’re very excited, but have kept things very low key,” the source said. “Lockdown was a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family.”

  1. Do you plan on sending your kids back to school this fall?
Yes. I trust that our schools are taking precautions.
No. We don't feel that proper precautions are in place.
I'm not sure yet. It depends on how things progress.

Sheeran spent two-and-half years touring almost non-stop until Christmas Eve of last year, when he announced a break from touring and social media. He announced then that he would “be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.” Becoming a dad would certainly qualify as “something to write about,” and it’s easy to wonder if that’s what he was referring to.

Sheeran is already a pretty likable dude, a massively successful artist who’s been open about his struggles with substance abuse and married to his high school sweetheart. Becoming a dad is only going to make him even more relatable, especially if he can translate the experience into more hit songs.
