This may go without saying, but it warrant repeating regardless: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is amazing at pretty much everything he does. He’s basically the world’s only octuple threat (actor, singer, wrestler, dancer, dad, franchise viagra, hottest bald dude alive, and middling college football player). But even immortals are tested by the vicissitudes of fate. Johnson proved this recently when he tried to make his two-year-old daughter Jasmine Lia laugh with a truly terrible dad joke. The rather theatrical fail happened on Christmas when Johnson burst into his living room singing “Here comes Dwanta Claus! Here comes Dwanta Claus…” while Jasmine was playing with some of her brand new toys.
Instead of being amused by her dad’s antics, Jasmine silently judges Johnson’s half-hearted attempt at wordplay by walking over and shutting the door in his face. Jasmine’s lack of subtlety is absolutely brilliant and while Johnson may have been the one initially trying to get a laugh, Jasmine ended up giving her old man a much-needed lesson in the art of comedy.
Johnson shared the groan-worthy moment on Instagram where it has been viewed over eight million times in just two days and commented on by more than 28,000 fans, many of whom bemoaned Johnson’s weak attempt at a joke. A vocal minority has rallied to Johnson’s side, arguing that he is merely following in the rich tradition of fathers telling really stupid jokes. There’s a case to be made there, but Jasmine Lia is probably on the right side of this particular beef.
We’re looking forward to her future review of HBO’s Ballers.
