Six years ago, goalkeeper Brad Jones lost his 6-year-old son Luca to leukemia. On, Saturday, fans of Jones’ current team, the Dutch club Feyenoord, paid an emotional and powerful tribute to Luca during the 12th minute of Feyenoord’s match against VVV-Venlo. The fans all stood at the 12-minute mark and illuminated De Kuip stadium with their smartphone flashlights before performing a stunning rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (an iconic Liverpool anthem) to show their support and love for Jones and Luca.

This heartwarming support from fans was immediately noticed and widely praised online, as people applauded the fans of Feyenoord for going above and beyond to show some love for one of their own. This entire display is even more impressive when you consider the fact that this is only Jones’s second season with the team but it is clear that he is already deeply respected and admired by Feyenoord fans. The club also joined in the outpouring of encouragement for its goalkeeper by tweeting a photo of the lit-up stadium with the caption: “You’ll never walk alone…”

The former Liverpool goalie’s son died on November 18, 2011, so the day already held special meaning for Jones. To lose your child results in an everlasting wound and it is impossible to imagine the pain that Jones is still going through to this day. But thanks to the deeply caring and incredibly thoughtful fans of Feyenoord, Jones was reminded that he is supported by the fans, teammates, friends, and family he has in his life. And even on his worst day, he can take solace in knowing that he’ll never walk alone.
