This Interactive Chart Shows Exactly How Much Booze Everyone Drinks

Flowing Data

There are lots of good reasons to crack open a beer at the end of the day — because you had a long day, because the kid is finally asleep, because the good people at Flowing Data said everyone is doing it. Pulling numbers from The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), run primarily by the Centers for Disease Control And Prevention, statistician Nathan Yau looked at how much about 400,000 American American adults drank in 2014, and put it in this interactive chart that’s so easy to use, you can drink while you do it.

The survey asked, “During the past 30 days, on the days when you drank, about how many drinks did you drink on the average?” The results show that a majority of people are great at moderation (or lying on surveys) and only consumed one drink. Men drank more than women overall, Hispanic men preferred to have 2 drinks (or to be honest about it), and Asian women dominated in the one drink maximum category at 58 percent.

Unfortunately the graph shows that 30 percent of men across all demographics had 10 or more drinks a night, which begs the question: did the CDC only survey dudes in college? Because no kid of yours is going to let you get away 10 drink hangover, and you couldn’t stay awake that long, anyway.
