Rock legend Dave Grohl and his mom Virginia are on a quest to remind the world that even mega-famous stars have moms. And that those moms often have embarrassingly sweet things to say about the success of their hyper-talented children. To get the word out, the mother-son team is shooting a new docu-series called From Cradle to Stage, which takes its name from her book detailing the in’s and out’s of raising a rock star. The show will feature interviews with the moms of famous musicians like Pharrell, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), and Adam Levine.
“I’m excited to introduce the viewing public to the strong, loving women who have supported the insistent dreams of their musical sons and daughters,” Virginia Grohl said in a statement.
Known as a devoted family man, Grohl has three kids once invited his daughter Harper on stage to play drums with the Foo Fighters, while another time taking the stage with his older daughter Violet while she sang a cover of the Adele song “When We Were Young.” He chimed in with a few words about the docuseries as well, not only saying that he was excited to get the ball rolling on the project with his mom, but that he ‘owes her one,’ too.
Even though at this point Grohl is probably best known as the frontman and guitarist of the Foo Fighters, he actually got his start as the second drummer in Nirvana. And raising a drummer is no joke. The noise is nonstop and anyone who can survive the incessant banging, tapping, and general restlessness that comes with raising the next Ringo Starr deserves some kind of award for perseverance and patience. So yes, he really does owe her one, and this series sounds like it will be totally awesome.
From Cradle to Stage is currently in development. There is no filming schedule or release date at this time.
