This Latest Pregnancy Photo Shoot Trend Is Really Weird

We can't look away.

From gender reveal lasagna to vasectomy parties, there are a lot of very bizarre parenting trends taking over social media. And now there’s a new one to add to the list: dad pregnancy photo shoots.

Popping up all over Instagram, each picture features what looks like a pregnant man. Of course, it’s just an illusion—it’s really the mama-to-be’s belly sticking out from behind an object like a wall or tree while she hides her head. Then the dad pokes his own head out instead so it looks like it’s on his partner’s body.

The result? A very creepy but very hilarious shot of the expecting father sporting a baby bump.

Most people can’t stop laughing over the pregnant dad pictures. One person commented, “Omg I had to do a double take! This is too funny,” while another said, “This is the most amazing pregnancy pic probably ever!! #couplegoals.”

One person even joked, “Dad bod 2.0?!”

Ronnie from Jersey Shore supposedly started the trend last April with a “paternity” shot of his own which went viral on Twitter. And now it’s starting to grow beyond social media, too.

One professional photographer even admits she uses the funny pose in a lot of her maternity photo shoots. Shannon Decole told CafeMom, “It’s a tactic to loosen the couple up. Dads and husbands seem to be so uptight about being in front of the camera.” She added that the idea, which she originally saw on Pinterest, “is for a good laugh and so cute.”

Even though we are anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks away from meeting our babies, Matt has done a great job carrying these twins for the past several months and deserves to be celebrated on Father’s Day ???????? But seriously, he has been such an amazing husband during this complicated pregnancy, taking care of me, the dogs, and our home. He makes sure we’re fed, cleans the house, does laundry, grocery shops… and pretty much everything. I’m part of a couple of online twin mom support groups and have been so surprised by all the venting about husbands who have expected their wives, who are on bed rest and carrying twins, to still do all the housework and even go as far as to call them lazy for wanting (and needing) to rest! And even more appalled at the ones who don’t help with taking care of their own babies when they’re here. It’s such a common complaint in those groups. It makes me appreciate my husband so much, and I feel so lucky to have a husband who has been so helpful and supportive and can’t wait to see him as a father. He’s already looking forward to having our hands full and says he’s excited to take care of our little ones. Happy Father’s Day, Matt! ????
