One girl in China will no longer be able to use the “my dog ate my homework” excuse. That’s because her dog actually helps her do her homework, thanks to her dad. A video of the four-legged tutor is going viral as people are blown away by the impressively-trained pup.
“I pointed at the coffee table and told [the dog] to watch my daughter as she does her homework,” the dad, Mr. Xu, told video news site Pear. “It would then guard her and make sure she doesn’t reach for her phone.”
According to the video description, the girl, whose family lives in Guiyang City, China, had a habit of playing on her smartphone when she was supposed to be doing her homework. Desperate to keep his daughter on task, Xu taught their dog to stand over the girl while she worked to prevent her from getting distracted.
He explained to Pear that their pup, who they’ve had since December 2016, is “very well-behaved,” adding that “I have been training it since it was young and now it does whatever I tell it to do.”
The video has gotten a lot of attention on social media. “I need that dog (and that discipline) in my life!” wrote one user, while another joked, “In conversations as an adult, she will forever identify as ‘more of a cat person.'”
This may seem like an amusing trick but if it helps bring her grades up, don’t be surprised if dog tutoring becomes the next trend in education.
