Unhinged Dad Sends Letter To a Guy About Breaking Up With His Daughter

A particularly noxious ideology posits that a daughter is basically the property of her father, that her value derives from her virginity which can only be given to her husband by her father or stolen away by a scoundrel. It’s completely out of touch with modern culture, which is why one dad’s bonkers letter espousing these ideas quickly went viral yesterday.

“RE: DEMAND FOR RESTITUTION FOR STEALING MY DAUGHTER’S HONOR” is a two-page missive written by a father to the dude who took his daughter’s virginity almost a decade ago. Seriously.

“It has been nearly ten years since I learned that you stole my daughter [redacted]’s virginity.” Note that the daughter doesn’t have any agency in this situation so she doesn’t share in the blame.

“For a brief pleasure, you forever took from me the sublime joy of giving my pure, virgin daughter away in marriage to her chosen husband,” the letter continues, as this dad continues to make it clear that he is obsessing over his adult daughter’s sex life.

“I will tell you that my wrath against you is so great that to kill you by prolonged and extreme torture followed by the thorough desecration and destruction of your corpse would not be enough to extinguish my anger.”

Luckily, this heated language is quickly followed by dad admitting that “doing harm to a fellow Christian is an impossibility” to him. It makes you shudder at what might have happened if this dude were Muslim or Jewish.

But this letter isn’t just a way for this dad to vent his frustration. He goes out to outline his plan, based on his personal interpretations of the Bible and a bit of arithmetic, to exact vengeance.

The TL;DR is that this guy would have owed seven years of “full-time service” as a bride price, the cost of her virginity, according to the Bible. But because he and her father didn’t have an agreement in place when she lost her virginity, he’s a thief and must repay what he stole seven-fold. That means he owes 49 prime years to the father of a woman he had sex with ten years ago. Totally normal stuff.

“Specifically, I demand divine restitution that will age you and rejuvenate me 49 years.” He’s essentially saying that justice is this guy dying in his 40s while he lives well into the triple digits, and that that scenario is a reasonable possibility.

“Even if my divine petition is not accepted and you do not age, know that you are still in the wrong and are separated from God until you are reconciled with me.” So this dude, who has already said that he under no conditions will offer forgiveness, is making his forgiveness a precondition to someone else’s redemption.

By the time dad mentions that he’s seen hell—firsthand!—in the final paragraph, it passes almost without notice, so deranged is the preceding message. You have to feel most sorry for his daughter, who had to live under this dude’s rules for years and, despite the redactions of the posted letter, probably feels pretty embarrassed that her sexual escapades and family nonsense are spreading like wildfire around Twitter.
